A Single Dad and Londr

I started Londr to help my family. We had turned our primary home into an Airbnb on the weekends we were away, and soon we lost all of our free time doing waves of laundry. The laundry was non-stop for the four days we were home between laundry from the kids, the Airbnb linens, and the vacation laundry. We didn’t even have time to take our laundry to the wash/fold service at the laundromat. What we really needed was for it to be picked up and delivered!

Eventually, we stopped doing the Airbnb and life returned to normal; but we still had five children including two princesses who wore multiple outfits per day, a baby who wore multiple outfits per meal, and two active boys who didn’t care about the difference between Oreo crumbs and potting soil. We had so much laundry that sending it all out would have been beyond our limited budget. However, creating and then using Londr to cover the laundry chores when we got behind, or just wanted a free weekend, was a lifesaver!

Over the past year, ‘we’ and ‘our’ became ‘me’ and ‘my,’ and I am in a situation where I have to work full-time to provide for my family, and be a parent full-time by myself. Despite having to parent alone, I still have to make time for fun. When does a single dad take his kids to the lake? Whenever he wants to, that’s when! It’s not all bad, and having the freedom to take the kids on random adventures is a definite silver lining to my new situation.

Plus, having a great Londr washer nearby has allowed me to come home from those adventures, throw all the dirty socks and towels in a bag, and not have to worry about laundry. I guess I can spend that extra time learning how to braid hair. It turns out, when I really looked at it, using Londr full-time wasn’t that big of an expense after all, especially compared to the expense of multitasking quality time with my children.

Using Londr is not too much different from ordering pizza, like I did last night, to cover a meal so I can teach my oldest boy how to whittle, run my other boy to a playdate, my girl to a church activity, grab snacks at the store for the youngest kids’ preschool, and catch the gym so I can stay sane and focused. Londr helps everything else fit. Even with five active kids and an active life, I end up spending about $150/month on laundry – totally worth it! With Londr, when the little people go to bed, I can have a date with Netflix instead of with my washing machine and a pile of socks.
